One of the top teams in the nation kept the Panthers baseball team in check on Sunday, as SUNY Niagara swept a doubleheader by scores of 10-0 and 21-2. Tompkins Cortland is now 4-14 overall and 4-12 in the West Division. Niagara, #7 in the latest NJCAA national rankings, stands at 33-7 overall and tied for first with a record of 19-1 in division.

Game One: Niagara 10, Tompkins Cortland 0  (5 innings)

The Panthers put runners on base in each of the first three innings, but couldn't cross home. Frank Marra (Millstone Township, N.J./Allentown) and Kannon VanDuzer (Sayre, Pa./Sayre Area H.S.) each went 1-for-2 in the loss.

Game Two: Niagara 21, Tompkins Cortland 2  (5 innings)

Marra started game two with a single, and worked his way around to score the game's first run. The lead was erased when Niagara scored five in the bottom of the first. The Thunderwolves put up some big numbers over the next three innings before the Panthers added a final run in the fifth.

Dan Mrowinski (Syracuse/Solvay H.S.) went 2-for-3 to lead the Panthers.
