Jefferson Softball Advances in 2021 NJCAA Region III Softball Tournament

5-9-2021:  The SUNY Jefferson Cannoneer's softball team traveled to Sanborn to take on the Niagara County Community College Thunder Wolves in regional play.  Game 1 would be scoreless through the first 2 innings.  The Thunder Wolves would take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd on a two out 2 run single, off Cannoneer's starting pitcher Sarah Johnson.  The Cannoneer's would answer back in the top of the 4th off Niagara starter pitcher Lydia Serrano.  Isabella Soluri and Kaylee Johnson started the inning with back to back singles and one out later Marissa Valvo plated them both with a double to the left center field gap.  Logan Kirchoff would single to score Valvo and the Cannoneers held a 3-2 lead.  A Kirchoff sacrifice fly in the top of the 6th, scoring Valvo would increase the Cannoneer's lead to 4-2. Serrano would get Niagara to within one with a solo HR in the bottom of the 6th.  Niagara would tie the game in the bottom of the 7th on a two out RBI single by Jordan Dixon.  The SUNY Jefferson offense finally came to life in the top of the 8th as they exploded for 8 runs.  The Thunder Wolves scored 2 in their half of the eighth and the Cannoneers captured the game 1 victory by a score of 12-6.  The Cannoneer's offense was lead by Izzy Soluri 4 for 5, Bailey Zicari 3 for 5, Logan Kirchoff 3 for 3, and Marissa Valvo 2 for 4.  Kirchoff and Valvo each drove in 3 runs in the win.  Sarah Johnson earned her 10th win of the season scattering 7 hits and striking out 7.
 
In game 2 SUNY Jefferson starting pitcher Georgia Barton would hold Niagara scoreless in the top of the 1st inning.  The Cannoneers would plate 6 runs in the bottom of the first off Niagara starting pitcher Jordan Dixon.  Niagara would close the score to 6-4 in the top of the 2nd.  Three more Jefferson runs in the bottom of the 2nd would give the Cannoneers a 9-4 lead and they would never look back, taking game 2 by a score of 16-8.  The Cannoneer's offense was lead by Justine White 2 for 3 including a double and a triple, Kaylee Johnson 2 for 2 with 2 doubles and 4 runs batted in, and Leah Briones 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored.  Georgia Barton also earned her 10th win of the season in the victory.
 
The Cannoneer's record improves to 20-10 and they head to Herkimer to take on the Generals in the NJCAA REGION IIIB CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES on Friday May 14th for games beginning at 12:00 p.m.
