Women's Volleyball Finishes With Clean Sweep at Monroe

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College women's volleyball team was on the road Saturday afternoon for a pair of matches at Monroe Community College against Niagara County and Erie Community College(s). 

Lakers vs. Niagara County

The Lakers continued their impressive run with a clean sweep over Niagara County, securing a 3-0 victory. Brooke DeGroff (Castile, N.Y./ Letchworth) shined against the Thunderwolves, delivering 12 kills on 19 attempts for an impressive .579 kill percentage. 

Setter Payton Stoddard (Bloomfield, N.Y./ Bloomfield) orchestrated the Lakers offense with 21 assists while also adding 5 service aces to her tally. Freshman teammate Michelina Williams (Fairport, N.Y./ Fairport) contributed significantly in the back row with a team-high 12 digs, while also putting up a strong serving game with 3 aces.

Freshman Leah Williams (Olean, N.Y./ Olean) provided solid support with 5 kills and 2 block assists to help guide the Lakes to their first win of the day.

Lakers vs. Erie

The Lakers continued their dominant streak with a commanding victory over the Erie Community College Kats, winning in straight sets. The team showcased a balanced offensive approach, with Brooke DeGroff leading the way, racking up 9 kills while also shining at the service line with 6 aces.

Freshman Payton Stoddard had an impressive performance, directing the team with 27 assists, contributing 2 kills, and adding 3 service aces to her tally. On the defensive side, Adriana Botello (Holley, N.Y./ Holley) stood out with a game-high 12 digs, closely followed by teammate Michelina Williams with 11 digs.

Teammates Kiane Wells (Webster, N.Y./ Webster Thomas) and Jordan Witon (Sherburne, N.Y./ Sherburne-Earlville) provided support on the attack front with 7 and 6 kills respectively, with Wells hitting an impressive .438. Freshman Bridget Miller (Seneca Falls, N.Y./ Mynderse) was instrumental with 3 kills and 3 block assists.

With the sweep, the Lakers move to 9-1 and 2-0 in conference play. For their next match, the team returns home for a match with the Red Barons of Corning Community College at 6 PM.
