Four Straight Wins for Panthers Softball

The Panthers softball team made it four straight wins by sweeping SUNY Niagara Sunday, 13-0 and 10-4. Tompkins Cortland is now 4-8 on the season; Niagara drops to 0-6.

Game One: Tompkins Cortland 13, Niagara 0  (five innings)

Much like game one in Thursday's doubleheader sweep of SUNY Broome, Kiara Grover (Scio/Scio H.S.) dominated from the circle in game one. For the second straight outing, Grover twirled a shutout while allowing just one hit. She struck out nine, giving her twenty strikeouts over her last ten innings of work.

At the plate, the Panthers put runs on the board in each at bat, starting with two in the first before busting things open with seven in the second inning. Andrea Medovich (Kirkwood/Windsor H.S.) continued to set the table at the top of the lineup, going 3-for-3, drawing a walk, and scoring four times. Grover helped herself at the plate by going 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and Gabby Foley (Barton/Tioga H.S.) had a 3-run homer to lead the 11-hit attack.

Game Two: Tompkins Cortland 10, Niagara 4

Zoie Burke (Lansing/Lansing H.S.) took the ball in game two, and limited the Thunderwolves to four runs (two earned) over six innings of work. The Panther led the entire way, starting with three runs in top of the first and then stretching the lead with four in the third.

The Panthers won with a well-balanced attack, as every player in the starting lineup reached base. Lana Thousand (Onondaga/Onondaga H.S.) was the only Panther with two hits, including a double while going 2-for-4. Abby Foley (Barton/Toga H.S.) matched her sister's game one accomplishment with a 3-run homer of her own in game two.

Looking ahead

The Panthers travel to Hudson Valley Community College on Thursday.
