Jayhawks Fall To No, 15 Niagara County

SANBORN - Going into a tough road game, the Jamestown Community College men's basketball team fell to No. 15 Niagara County Community College, 90-67.

 

The Jayhawks (2-24, 0-8 Region 3) were led by forward Gonzalo Luque (Madrid, Spain/Instituto Ortega y Gasset) coming off the bench, securing a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds (2 offense, 8 defense) while guard Elgin Baylor (Monroeville, PA/Gateway Senior HS) adding 14 points and forward Traden Gray (Frewsburg, NY/Frewsburg HS) chipping in with 13 points.

 

Guard Bam Toure (Jamaica, NY/St. Johns Prep) added nine points and a career-high 10 rebounds in the effort.

 

JCC found themselves behind the ball in the first 10 minutes of action, trailing 29-17. Facing one of the top teams in the country, the Jayhawks settled down and slowly chipped away at the deficit. JCC found their confidence, going on a 10-4 run to trail 33-29 with over three minutes until the break. The run started with a three-pointer from Toure and capped off by six straight points from Luque.

 

The Thunderwolves were able to take a 38-31 lead into the break on their way to the win.

 

The Jayhawks went 29-for-70 (41.4 percent) from the floor while the Thunderwolves went 32-for-70 (45.7 percent) from the field. JCC held the advantage on the glass, grabbing 42 rebounds to NCCC's 40 rebounds.

 

The Jayhawks will close out the regular season Monroe Community College this Saturday, February 19th, for a 3 p.m. tip.
