January 6, 2019 – Despite a valiant first half effort against DII Niagara County Community College, the LCCC Commodores Men's Basketball team lost a well-fought battle to the taller team from up north with a final score of 97-79. Until the remaining few minutes in the first half, it was a tight contest when the depth of the Thunder Wolves proved too much for LCCC and they went on a 17-3 run before heading into the locker room.
The Commodores came out strong and determined in the second half, cutting the lead to 10 early on before a few key plays allowed Niagara to extend their lead for the remainder of the game.
Coach Marty Eggleston said, "Niagara showed a lot of discipline our team could learn from, but I am proud of our guys for fighting through adversity and competing so well against an always tough DII team, even though they had a definite height advantage and significant depth on their roster".
LCCC's Thomas Hronis (N. Ridgeville/N. Ridgeville HS) led all scorers in the game with 30, while Justin Newman (Cincinnati/Robert A Taft HS) contributed 23 points and 11 boards. Andrew Nelson (Strongsville/Strongsville HS) added 10 points in the loss.
The Commodore men are 10-5 on the season and travel to Cuyahoga CC Metro this Wednesday, January 9, for a 6:30 p.m. matchup.
