Softball Falls at Niagara CCC

SANBORN, N.Y. — The Finger Lakes Community College softball team dropped both games of Sunday's doubleheader with Niagara County Community College, falling 7-5 in the opener and 8-5 in game two.

In the first game, freshman Kalyska Payne (Savona, NY/Campbell-Savona) doubled twice and drove in a pair of runs, freshman Clare Kingsfield (Forestville, NY/Forestville) was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, and sophomore Hannah Capacci (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse Academy) was 1-for-3 with an RBI for FLCC.

Payne allowed three runs on seven hits over four innings for the Lakers, who led 3-2 after two innings before the Thunderwolves knotted the score in the bottom of the fourth and tacked on three runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth. Trailing 7-3 heading into the top of the seventh, FLCC struck for two runs, but could get no closer.

In the second game, Capacci went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases, sophomore Ava Breuer (Fillmore, NY/Fillmore) was 1-for-4 with a triple, an RBI, and a run scored, and freshmen Megan Lee (Waverly, NY/Waverly) and Deanna Palmer (Auburn, NY/Auburn) each drove in a run for the Lakers.

FLCC (6-18) led 5-3 heading into the fifth, but Niagara CCC pushed across four runs in the fifth and added a run in the sixth to complete the sweep.

The Lakers welcome Jamestown Community College to campus for a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
