Rough end to spring training

Rough end to spring training

The final doubleheader of the Cyclones trip to Florida was with Niagara County Community College. Moraine Valley narrowly lost the first game and was shutout in the final one.

GAME 1
The Cyclones scored first after an error and two walks loaded the bases. Ethan Lopez (1-for-3, 2 RBIs) hit into a grounder but was able to score a run. However, the next few innings saw Niagara take a 7-1 lead. But Moraine Valley bounced back with 11 runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Dimitri Spatharakis started the inning with a walk and Lopez was hit by a pitch. Nicholas Haran grounded into a fielder's choice but advanced Spatharakis to third. A fielding error scored Spatharakis before Jayden Armstrong (1-for-2) was walked. Emmet Barry (1-for-4, 2 RBIs) grounded out but scored one run. The big hit that inning came from Arnoldo Velazquez (1-for-3, 2 RBIs), who rocked a triple to the fence and scored Armstrong. At that point, Moraine Valley was down 7-4.

The next inning was even bigger for the Cyclones. Niko Mastoras (3-for-4, 2 RBIs) and Spatharakis walked before Lopez singled one run in. With two outs, Lopez stole second and Armstrong was walked before Barry singled in another run. With the bases loaded, Velazquez was hit by a pitch to force a run home and tie the game. Then Christian Rosales was walked to get the Cyclones ahead 8-7. In consecutive at-bats, Mastoras and Jack Hoh (1-for-3, 2 RBIs) each doubled to give their team the 12-7 edge. However, it was short-lived as Niagara bounced back in the bottom of the seventh to deal the Cyclones a 13-12 loss.

GAME 2
The second game saw a stunted offense as the Cyclones only had one hit in the 14-0 loss. Lopez singled in the bottom of the fourth and that was it.
