Niagara County Community College recently returned home from another successful spring training trip to sunny Florida. The Thunderwolves, who have moved back up to No. 5 in the latest NJCAA DIII poll, finished with a 10-2 mark.
Rowan-Gloucester 16, Niagara CCC 0 (5 inn.)
Sophomores Jake Cavana and Matt Cross each doubled in the loss to the nation's second-ranked team.
Niagara CCC 17, Prince George's CC 3 (5 inn.)
Freshman Vincent Chiarenza was 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs in the win. Classmate Matt Kruszka was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and sophomore Noah Thompson added three RBIs of his own. Second-year pitcher Jarod Burmaster struck out seven over four innings to earn the win.
Niagara CCC 2, Sussex CCC 1
Sophomore hurler Jacob Lewis struck out eight batters in 4.2 innings of work. Sophomore Joe Kruszka picked up a four-out save. At the plate, sophomore Casey Gruarin was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Niagara CCC 9, Sussex CCC 8
Joe Kruszka tossed two innings of scoreless relief to earn the win. Freshman Bryan Rivera was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Chiarenza finished 3-for-3.
Niagara CCC 8, Jackson College 7
Cross was 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs in the come-from-behind win. Chiarenza and Matt Kruszka each had two hits and two RBIs.
Academy Baseball 7, Niagara CCC 6
Freshman Aaron Potter was 2-for-3 with five RBIs in defeat. Rivera added two hits, two runs and three stolen bases.
Niagara CCC 11, Waubonsee CC 9 (10 inn.)
Rivera knocked in three runs, while Thompson and Matt Kruszka each had three hits, an RBI and two runs scored. Joe Kruszka was dominant in relief, striking out five to pick up the win.
Niagara CCC 4, Dakota CTC 2 (8 inn.)
Rivera clubbed a three-run home run in the victory. Burmaster earned a no decision despite striking out nine in six innings of work. Freshman Keegan Ernest moved to 2-0 out of the bullpen and Joe Kruszka earned his third save.
Niagara CCC 5, Dakota CTC 2
Sophomore right-hander Justin Beyer threw a complete game, allowing just five hits to go with 14 Ks. William Lawrence and Gruarin each went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Niagara CCC 5, Warner JV 1 (5 inn.)
In a game shortened by rain, sophomore C.J. Gonzales allowed just five hits and struck out eight. Cross ripped a two-run home run and Thompson had an RBI and two runs scored.
Niagara CCC 3, Cannoniers Academy 0
Lewis, Alex Bish and Yohn Zapata-Baez combined on a shutout with 11 Ks. Bish got the win and Zapata-Baez the save. Cross was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and an RBI.
Niagara CCC 12, Sussex CCC 6
Rivera and Thompson each had three hits, while freshmen Devon Crowley and Garrett Boldt contributed two RBIs apiece.
