NCCC overcomes slow start in victory

Niagara County Community College followed up a seven-point first quarter with 35 points in the second period on its way to an 89-61 Western New York Athletic Conference road win at Mercyhurst North East on Wednesday night. The Thunderwolves, ranked No. 8 in the latest NJCAA Div. II poll, improved to 28-0 overall and 9-0 in conference play. The Saints fell to 13-10, 2-7. 

Sophomore Kenetria Redfern led the T-Wolves with 26 points and eight rebounds. Classmate Shilah Parker added 16 points, 11 boards and five assists, freshman Molly Mahony notched 16 points and 10 rebounds off the bench and freshman Paige Emborsky canned four 3-pointers on her way to 14 points.

NCCC closes out the regular season at 1 p.m. Saturday when it travels to rival Erie Community College.
