NCCC knocks off nationally-ranked Saints

On the strength of three pins and four forfeits, Niagara County Community College knocked off visiting Mercyhurst North East, 45-12, in Region III action on Wednesday night. The victory avenged an earlier-season loss to the Saints, who were ranked No. 18 in the latest NJCAA poll. NCCC, which is now 8-5 in dual meets, was receiving votes.

Freshman Greg Quinn (125), sophomore C.J. Walz (133) and freshman Anthony Bell (174) each earned victories via pinfall for NCCC. Sophomore Sergio Crespo won a hard-fought 5-2 decision at 184 pounds. Head coach Keith Maute said the unselfishness his team showed by adjusting weight classes made the difference in the match.

Next up for the Thunderwolves is a trip to Penn State Fayette for its duals, slated to begin at 11 a.m. Sunday.
