Lakers Fall to Non-Conference Opponent at Home

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College women's basketball team hosted non-conference opponent Niagara County Community College Tuesday night on the Putt Moore Court.

The Lakers struggled early on with a relentless Niagara County defense. Turnovers proved costly as they took a 49-15 deficit into the break. Freshman Hayley Andersen (Penn Yan, N.Y./ Penn Yan) dominated the boards with 6 first-half rebounds.

The Lakers would have a better second-half, but would ultimately drop their non-conference matchup with the Thunderwolves 86-36.

For the Lakers, freshman Allaysha Grady (Sodus, N.Y./ Sodus) would pace the offense with 12 points, sinking 5 shots and going 2-5 from beyond the arc. On defense Grady would pull down 4 rebounds to conclude a strong effort. Freshman Mikaylah Pocock (Bergen, N.Y./ Byron-Bergen) saw 3 of 6 of her shots convert inside the paint for 8 points on the night. Pocock would add 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steals to her tally as well.

Freshman Izzy Robson (Newark, N.Y./ Newark) sunk two 3-pointers and finished with 1 rebound against the Thunderwolves. Hayley Andersen ended the night with 8 rebounds and 2 assists from the guard position and Alyssa Thompson (Barker, N.Y./ Barker) would come off the bench and sink a 3-pointer to finish with 3 points and 1 rebound. Teammate Brittany Cooper (Odessa, N.Y./ Odessa-Montour) finished the night with 3 points and 1 assist, while teammate Berit Sack (Buffalo, N.Y./ The Park School) ended the night with 2 points and 4 rebounds.

The Lakers will return home for a conference matchup with SUNY Broome after Thanksgiving break on November 29th.
