BUFFALO - Getting back into Region 3 action, the Jamestown Community College volleyball team went a perfect 3-0 on the day at the Erie Community College POD Sunday at the Burt Flickenger Center.

The Jayhawks (5-6, 5-1 Region 3) got out to a fast start on the day, knocking off the Timberwolves in three sets by scores of 25-11, 25-15, and 25-17. Outside hitter Emma McCarthy (Olean, NY/Allegany-Limestone Central) led the offensive attack with eight kills with outside hitters Claire Pumford (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) and Cadance Main (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) added seven kills each. Setter Madison Johnson (Panama, NY/Panama Central) had another solid game, coming away with 33 assists.

 

On the defensive side of the ball, outside hitter Mikala Einink (Clymer, NY/Clymer Central) and libero Sydney Ulasewicz (Allegany, NY/Allegany-Limestone Central) each had eight digs.

 

At the net, outside hitter Rian Finch (Randolph, NY/Randolph HS) had three total blocks (2 solo, 1 assists) with middle hitters Madison Ring (Sinclairville, NY/Cassadaga Valley HS) and Bri McEwen (Silver Creek, NY/Silver Creek HS) getting two solo blocks each.

Moving onto their second match of the day, JCC took three straight sets from the Vikings with scores of 25-12, 25-10, and 25-17. Pumford led the offensive attack with seven kills with McCarthy adding six kills. Johnson had another 20-plus assist game, pumping out 21 assists.

 

On the defensive side of the ball, Ulasewicz had nine digs with Einink coming away with seven digs. McEwen had a solid game at the net, collecting six solo blocks.

Finishing the day off strong, the Jayhawks bested the Thunderwolves in three sets with scores of 25-23, 25-26, and 25-19. McCarthy came up big when needed, collecting 10 kills with Pumford adding seven kills. Johnson had another masterful game facilitating the offense, finishing with 26 assists.

 

On defense, Ulasewicz had a career-high 17 digs with Pumford adding 10 digs. At the net, Main had three solo blocks with Finch had three block assists.

 

The Jayhawks will be back in action this Thursday, September 22nd, as they host Erie Community College in their home-opener at 6 p.m.
