Womens basketball fall to Thunderwolves on Military Appreciation Night

The Lakeland women's basketball team played host to the Niagara County Thunderwolves and fell by a final score of 80-55. Lakeland's record is now 6-1. The Lakers had a rough start to the game and were never able to get on track.  Lakeland trailed 12-0 to start the game as they committed several turnovers and missed several open looks. Niagara settled in right from the start as they took advantage of the Lakers miscues and shot the ball extremely well all night. The Lakers didn't quit during the game as they gave decent effort, but unfortunately, were just unable to put any runs together. The normally consistent shooting Lakers also shot just 58% from the line (14-24).

For Lakeland, Gianna Pegoraro was the leading scorer finishing with 15 points. Madison Fueger added 14 points while Zion Fussell finished with 8 points. Delaney Sullivan added 7 points for the Lakers while both Alesia Marshall and Brandy Smith chipped in 5 points each.

Gardy's Gab: "That was a tough one. We came out very slow and just weren't working hard enough. Credit Niagara as they came in ready to play - they played well, ran the court, and shot the ball well. Unfortunately, we dug ourselves into a hole and were just never able to climb out of it. We need to evaluate what happened tonight, regroup, and get better - and we will."

Next Up: The Lakers will host the Hocking Hawks on Saturday in their first conference game of the season. Tip off is scheduled for 3:00 pm in Laker Gym.
