Baseball slugs its way past Broome

SUNY Niagara clubbed 29 hits on its way to a Region III sweep over host SUNY Broome on Thursday afternoon. The Thunderwolves, ranked No. 6 in the latest NJCAA Div. III poll, are now 16-6 overall and 2-0 in regional play. The two teams wrap up their four-game set with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sal Maglie Stadium.

SUNY Niagara 13, SUNY Broome 2

Sophomore Joshua Milleville improved to 3-0 on the year as he struck out 10 in a complete-game effort. The sophomore trio of Steven Merkel, Owen Silliman and Matthew Procopio each homered. Merkel finished with five RBIs, Silliman had two hits and two RBIs and Procopio added two RBIs and two runs scored. Fellow sophomore Andrew Stillinger went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

SUNY Niagara 20, SUNY Broome 0 (5 inn.)

Freshman Keygan Miksa had a breakout performance, finishing 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Classmate Braeden Dyck added two doubles, two RBIs and scored three times. Also for N-Trip, Procopio was 2-for-5 with five RBIs, Silliman went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored, sophomore Gavyn Boyle finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and freshman Nigel Sebastianelli scored four times. Sophomore Zachary Fike had seven Ks in four innings of work to get the win.
