T-Wolves sweep Hornets in home opener

SUNY Niagara opened the home portion of its schedule with a Region III sweep of SUNY Broome on Saturday afternoon at Sal Maglie Stadium. The Thunderwolves, ranked No. 6 in the latest NJCAA Div. III poll, improved to 18-6 overall and 4-0 in regional play. The squad returns to action at 1 p.m. Thursday for a home twinbill vs. Genesee Community College.

SUNY Niagara 11, SUNY Broome 1 (5 inn.)

Sophomore Peter Skulski struck out five in five innings of work to move to 4-0 on the year. Classmate Matthew Procopio went 2-for-4 with four RBIs at the dish, while freshman Gavyn Boyle was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Also for N-Trip, sophomore Andrew Stillinger was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, sophomore Brett Johnson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored and sophomore Steven Merkel finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.

SUNY Niagara 12, SUNY Broome 2 (5 inn.)

Freshman Aidan Paul allowed just two hits and struck out eight to get the win on the bump. At the plate, Johnson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Procopio, meanwhile, went 1-for-2 with two RBIs, freshman Braden Hill was 2-for-3 with an RBI and sophomore Owen Silliman finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and scored twice.
