SUNY Niagara runs win streak to nine

SUNY Niagara celebrated Sophomore Day with another pair of Region III wins over visiting Corning Community College on Sunday afternoon at Sal Maglie Stadium. The Thunderwolves, ranked No. 5 in the latest NJCAA Div. III poll, improved to 44-8 overall and 28-2 in regional play. SUNY Niagara wraps up the regular season with a make-up doubleheader at 2 p.m. Monday at Erie Community College.

SUNY Niagara 13, Corning CC 3 (5 inn.)

Sophomore Nicholas Schulz led a hit parade with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Freshman Nigel Sebastianelli went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, classmate Keygan Miksa was 2-for-3 with an RBI, sophomore Joshua Milleville ripped a two-run double and freshman Gavyn Boyle homered in the win. Sophomore Owen Silliman and freshman Weston Thompson each added two hits and two runs scored for the T-Wolves. Sophomore Zachary Fike improved to 5-0 on the bump.

SUNY Niagara 10, Corning CC 0

Freshmen Jack Hoppe and Gregory Lowry combined on a no-hitter with seven Ks. It is the second combined no-hitter of the year for SUNY Niagara. Miksa spearheaded the offense, finishing 3-for-3 with a triple, double and two RBIs. Freshman Anthony Shortino went 1-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored, classmate Braeden Dyck was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored and Boyle finished 2-for-2 and scored twice.
