SUNY Niagara split clinches top seed

SUNY Niagara split its final regular-season doubleheader against host Erie Community College on Monday afternoon. The split earned the nationally-ranked Thunderwolves (45-9 overall, 29-3 Region III) the top seed in the upcoming Region III championships. SUNY Niagara will host SUNY Adirondack in a best-of-3 sub-regional series beginning at Noon Saturday at Sal Maglie Stadium. 

Erie CC 8, SUNY Niagara 7 (10 inn.)

Sophomore Owen Silliman homered and classmate Brett Johnson finished 3-for-4 with an RBI, two runs scored and four stolen bases, but it wasn't enough to hold off the surging Kats. Freshman Keygan Miksa added two RBIs and sophomore Andrew Damiani was the hard-luck loser on the mound after tossing six solid innings of relief.

SUNY Niagara 6, Erie CC 0

Sophomore Andrew Johnson continued his dominance on the bump as he tossed a four-hit shutout. The right-hander also notched eight strikeouts. At the dish, sophomore Nicholas Schulz was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, freshman Braden Hill went 2-for-3 with an RBI double and freshman Gavyn Boyle added two hits and an RBI.
