SUNY Niagara secures two shutouts

SUNY Niagara dominated on the mound as it secured a pair of Region III wins over visiting Genesee Community College on Thursday at Sal Maglie Stadium. The Thunderwolves, holding strong at No. 6 in the latest NJCAA Div. III rankings, improved to 20-6 overall and 6-0 in regional play. Next up is a Sunday trip to Onondaga Community College. First pitch is set for Noon.

Sophomore Andrew Damiani tossed a one-hitter with seven strikeouts as he improved to 4-0 on the season. Classmate Matthew Procopio ripped a three-run home run, sophomore Andrew Stillinger had two hits and an RBI and sophomore Nicholas Schulz finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and reached base four times. Also for N-Trip, freshman Gavyn Boyle was 3-for-4 and sophomore Steven Merkel went 2-for-3.

Sophomore Andrew Johnson allowed just two hits and struck out 11 in a complete-game effort. Merkel again went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Stillinger, Procopio and freshman Nigel Sebastianelli added a hit and an RBI apiece.
