T-Wolves earn another sweep

SUNY Niagara headed to Batavia and came home with a pair of wins over Region III rival Genesee Community College on Tuesday afternoon. The Thunderwolves, ranked No. 7 in the latest NJCAA Div. III poll, improved to 27-7 overall and 11-1 in Western Division play. The team is next in action at 2 p.m. Thursday when it hosts Jamestown Community College at Sal Maglie Stadium.

SUNY Niagara 3, Genesee CC 1

Freshman Keygan Miksa ripped an RBI double and sophomores Steven Merkel and Owen Silliman each had a run-scoring single in the decisive seventh inning. Freshman Aidan Paul earned the win in relief of sophomore starter Joshua Milleville, who did not allow a hit in six innings of work. 

SUNY Niagara 12, Genesee CC 0 (6 inn.)

Sophomore Zachary Fike picked up his second win of the year as he gave up just one hit and struck out five in five innings of work. Freshman Joshua Toolen struck out the side in the sixth. At the plate, Merkel finished 2-for-2 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored. Sophomore Matthew Procopio was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, classmate Nicholas Schulz had a two-run single, sophomore Brett Johnson added two hits and freshman Braden Hill went 1-for-1 with an RBI and two runs scored.
