NCCC tops Cards in championship rematch

Niagara County Community College out-lasted division rival St. John Fisher University, 6-5, in UNYCHL action this past Sunday afternoon at Bill Gray's Iceplex. It was a rematch of last season's Tier II championship game, which saw NCCC win its second consecutive title. The Thunderwolves are now 3-1 on the young season.

The T-Wolves netted four first-period goals to jump out to a quick lead. Anthony Genau returned to the lineup and scored on the opening shift of the game with a between-the-legs goal. Spencer Hrynczak, Eddie Jetter and Will Casullo also lit the lamp for NCCC. Antonio Femia scored twice in the first period for the Cardinals.

Kevin Carle extended the N-Trip lead with his first UNYCHL goal early in the second stanza and Anthony Miller netted the eventual game winner at 12:28 of the third period. Evan Kopp picked up his second straight win between the pipes, weathering a late SJFU rally.

NCCC returns to the ice at 6:30 p.m. Saturday for a road contest at local rival Buffalo State College.
