NCCC knocks off UB ACHA in opener

Niagara County Community College opened the 2022-23 club hockey season with a 5-4 non-league win over the University at Buffalo's top ACHA team at Hyde Park Ice Pavilion on Saturday night. 

After a scoreless first period, NCCC netted a trio of second-period goals to take a slim 3-2 lead heading into the final 20 minutes. Scoring for the Thunderwolves were: Anthony Miller, Eddie Jetter and Nick Hess (short-handed).

The lead expanded to 5-2 with third-period tallies from Joey Lobrutto and Chuckie Schmidl. A late surge from UB made 5-4 in the final minutes, but NCCC goaltender Phil Cerrillo held firm and preserved the victory.

The T-Wolves return to the ice at 7:30 p.m. Friday for a road game at Niagara University.
