NCCC booters drop season opener

Niagara County Community College battled hard for 90 minutes, but came out on the wrong end of a 2-0 decision against visiting Tompkins-Cortland Community College on Wednesday afternoon.

The Thunderwolves fell to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in Region III play, while the Panthers improved to 1-1, 1-0.

Tompkins-Cortland scored both of its goals late in the first half - one each from Mathew Oparela and Abdoul Diagouraga. William Pritchard assisted on both tallies.

NCCC freshman goalkeeper Sammy Baker was busy throughout, finishing with 12 saves.

The Thunderwolves return to the pitch at 4 p.m. Wednesday with a regional road tilt at SUNY Broome.
