Softball makes annual swing through Florida

Niagara County Community College recently traveled to sunny Florida for its annual Spring Training trip. The Thunderwolves played several scholarship-level programs and returned home with a 4-10 overall record. NCCC returns to the diamond at 3 p.m. Thurs. March 30 for its Region III opener at Finger Lakes Community College.

Niagara CCC 10, Ancilla 6

Freshman pitcher Leah Bailey earned the win, tossing a complete game with eight strikeouts. Sophomores Maggiemay Murrins and Sydney Sexton along with freshman Samantha Steindel had three hits apiece. Sophomore Shelby Wolf had three RBIs, sophomore Sydnie Luckman was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored and freshman Jessica Eagan ripped a home run.

Grand Rapids 9, Niagara CCC 7

Sexton had two hits and two RBIs, while Steindel added two hits.

Penn State New Kensington 4, Niagara CCC 1

Murrins was 3-for-3 with two doubles, while Eagan had the lone RBI. Bailey went the distance and didn't allow an earned run.

Jackson 11, Niagara CCC 3

Murrins was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and sophomore Mackenzie Gozdziak had two hits.

Triton 9, Niagara CCC 8

Murrins was 4-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored. Sexton went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs.

Heartland 9, Niagara CCC 4

Sexton and Murrins each homered with Sexton driving in three runs.

South Suburban 10, Niagara CCC 7

Murrins was 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles and three runs scored. Luckman finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and Eagan had a two-run double.

Rowan-Gloucester 13, Niagara CCC 4

Steindel was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Luckman went 1-for-1 with two runs scored.

Niagara CCC 10, Waubonsee CC 9

Wolf had two doubles and two RBIs, sophomore Mariah Semple went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Eagan added two RBIs.

South Suburban 16, Niagara CCC 8

Murrins, Steindel and Wolf each went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Triton 10, Niagara CCC 6

Murrins and Wolf were both 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Niagara CCC 17, Mott CC 7

Semple was 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs and four runs scored. Also for NCCC, Wolf, Sexton and Murrins each had two hits and three RBIs and Eagan was 4-for-4. Bailey threw a complete game with seven Ks.

Waubonsee CC 11, Niagara CCC 5

Sexton was 3-for-3 and Murrins had two RBIs.

Niagara CCC 7, William Penn JV 6

Wolf had three RBIs and Bailey threw three innings of hitless relief in the comeback win.
