NCCC upends rival Jayhawks in opener
Niagara County Community College opened its regular season with a hard-earned 24-15 home victory over Western New York Athletic Conference rival Jamestown Community College this past Saturday.
The Thunderwolves are now 1-0, while the Jayhawks fell to 3-1.
Freshman Joel Nivar moved up a weight class and knocked off nationally-ranked Brock Johnson, 4-2, at 197 pounds in his collegiate debut.
At 184 pounds, freshman Simon Lingle topped returning NJCAA-Tournament qualifier Alex Christy, 4-2.
Freshman Josh Gill avenged an earlier exhibition loss with an 8-2 victory over Deonte Hutchinson at 125 pounds.
Also for N-Trip, classmate Hassan Dobbins was a 3-2 winner over James Rankin at 132 pounds.
Winners via forfeit for the T-Wolves included: Ethan Ferro (165) and Cortez Henderson (174).
NCCC returns to the mats at 2 p.m. Friday for the Garrett College Duals.
