Niagara County Community College returned from the Big Apple with a pair of big wins at this past weekend's Monroe College MLK Classic. The Thunderwolves, winners of six straight, are now 13-6 overall on the season.
Niagara CCC 83, Monroe College 76
The Thunderwolves canned 19 3-pointers on their way to the victory over the NJCAA Division I Mustangs. Sophomore Donel Cathcart led the way with 24 points and six assists, while classmate Laterrance Reed had 19 points and four dimes. Redshirt freshmen Najee Scott and Dytanya Mixson combined for 27 points in the win.
Niagara CCC 74, Herkimer College 73
The Thunderwolves fended off a furious second-half rally by the previously-unbeaten Generals. Freshman Daunte Watson hit seven 3-pointers on his way to a career-high 28 points in the win. Cathcart finished with 19 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Reed added 13 points and five assists.
Next up for NCCC is a key home regional contest against Genesee Community College. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
