NCCC goes 3-1 on opening weekend

Niagara County Community College began its 2021 spring season with a trio of non-conference road victories this past weekend. The Thunderwolves split with SUNY Adirondack at East Field on Saturday before sweeping Cayuga Community College at Falcon Park on Sunday. NCCC is now 3-1 overall heading into its home opener vs. Monroe College at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

SUNY Adirondack 4, Niagara CCC 2

The T-Wolves mustered just five hits in the setback. Freshman Chad Gartland was the hard-luck loser as he threw 4.2 innings and allowed just five hits, one earned run and struck out eight. Classmate Clifton Genge threw 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Sophomore Joey Battaglia and freshman Noah LaLonde each had an RBI.

Niagara CCC 2, SUNY Adirondack 0

Sophomore Ryan Peterson tossed a complete-game, one-hitter with seven Ks. Freshman Cal Brazier had an RBI double and fellow first-year player Andrew Fairbrother added an RBI single. 

Niagara CCC 7, Cayuga CC 6

Fairbrother was 3-for-4 with a double, triple and an RBI. Freshman Zach Evans added two hits, freshman Chris Tani ripped a two-run single and freshman Cole Laskowski chipped in with an RBI sacrifice fly. Sophomore Mat Carden threw three innings of one-hit ball out of the bullpen to get the win.

Niagara CCC 13, Cayuga CC 0 (5 inn.)

Freshman David Stirpe roped a three-run home run and freshman Matt Ferris clubbed a two-run dinger. Fellow freshman Howard Stuckey had a two-run triple and freshman Connor Schermerhorn threw five scoreless innings with five Ks to earn the victory.
