NCCC baseball finishes second in nation

Niagara County Community College finished second in the country for the third time in school history at last week's NJCAA Division III World Series in Greenville, Tennessee. NCCC, which finished the year with an overall record of 34-11, also finished as National runner-up in 2012 and 2017. 

Tyler JC 5, Niagara CCC 4

Miguel Vega hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Apache to the victory in the national-championship game. For NCCC, freshman Troy Leibert allowed four hits and no earned runs in six innings of relief. Freshmen Zach Evans, Cole Laskowski, Chris Tani and Cal Brazier each had an RBI in the loss.

Niagara CCC 10, Rowan-Gloucester 3

Freshman Joey Kench threw 4.1 innings of scoreless relief to get the win in the semifinal round. Tani finished 1-for-2 with three RBIs, Evans was 4-for-5 at the plate and freshman Lance Baldensperger went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Niagara CCC 7, Oakton CC 6

Sophomore Ryan Peterson moved to 10-1 on the season after 5.1 innings of scoreless relief. Sophomore Joey Battaglia ripped a two-run double, while freshman Andrew Fairbrother, Howard Stuckey, Laskowski, Brazier and Evans had two hits apiece.

Niagara CCC 14, Coastal Bend 4

Brazier was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs as N-Trip won via the mercy rule. Sophomore Scottie O'Bryan was 2-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored, Stuckey clubbed two doubles and Evans had two hits and two RBIs. Freshman Clifton Genge gave up just two earned runs in 4.2 innings of work.

Niagara CCC 8, Owens CC 2

Sophomore Dylan Crowley moved to 5-1 on the year as he went 7.2 innings with an earned run and seven strikeouts. Tani had a big day, finishing 3-for-4 with a double, triple, three RBIs and three runs scored. O'Bryan was 3-for-4, while Fairbrother and Evans had two RBIs each.

St. Cloud Tech 4, Niagara CCC 2

Freshman Will Jackman gave up just one earned run in 5.1 innings of relief in a game that spanned two days due to rain. Baldensperger had two hits and an RBI and freshman Bryce Moore was 2-for-3 in the setback.
