Wolves win on Sophomore Day

Host SUNY Niagara celebrated Sophomore Day with a sweep of Region III opponent Tompkins-Cortland Community College on Saturday afternoon at a rain-soaked Sal Maglie Stadium. 

The Thunderwolves, ranked No. 2 in the most recent NJCAA Div. III poll, improved to 44-0 overall and 25-0 in regional play. 

The Wolfpack closes the regular season with a twinbill on Tuesday at TC3. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.

SUNY Niagara 10, Tompkins-Cortland CC 0 (5 inn.)

Sophomore Sean Duffy moved to 4-0 on the year as he tossed five inning of four-hit ball. The right-hander recorded six strikeouts. Freshman Dalton Harper was 3-for-3 with a home run, triple and two runs scored. Sophomore Gavyn Boyle went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs, classmate Keygan Miksa was 2-for-3 with an RBI and second-year standout Braden Hill added two RBIs. Sophomores Michael Cole and Weston Thompson along with freshman Mike Schafer scored two runs apiece.

SUNY Niagara 9, Tompkins-Cortland CC 1 (6 inn.)

Sophomore Eric Woodley threw six innings of two-hit ball to improve to 6-0 on the season. The righty had three Ks and did not allow an earned run. Sophomore Christopher Finocchario was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two stolen bases. Hill went 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored, sophomore Samuel Heim ripped an RBI triple and classmate Adrian Salas chipped in an RBI and two runs.
