Schmidl powers NCCC icers past Pioneers

Niagara County Community College veteran Chuckie Schmidl scored five goals to propel the Thunderwolves to a 6-5 UNYCHL win over Alfred State on Saturday night at the Hyde Park Ice Pavilion. 

The Pioneers took any early lead on a short-handed breakaway from Matthew Gorski before Schmidl went on a goal-scoring barrage.

The game-winner, though, was credited to Jason Kuchey after skating end-to-end and banking the puck in off Alfred State goaltender Jeffrey Pienta.

NCCC's Evan Kopp was in goal to pick up his first collegiate victory.

N-Trip (2-1) returns to action at 4 p.m. Sunday when they visist St. John Fisher University at Bill Gray's Iceplex in Henrietta.
