SUNY Niagara sets new scoring record

SUNY Niagara sets new scoring record

SUNY Niagara continued its winnings ways and re-set the record book along the way this past weekend. The Thunderwolves won all three tournaments they entered, finishing the regular season with eight team victories. The postseason begins with the annual Region III Championships set for May 13 and 14 at Glen Oak Golf Club.

Jefferson CC Invitational

The T-Wolves took all five spots on the leaderboard as they set a new regional scoring record with 295 total strokes on Friday at the Par-71 Highland Meadows Golf Club. SUNY Niagara was 21 shots clear of the host Cannoneers. Freshman Ryan Kates was a first-time medalist with a one-over-par 72, followed closely by classmates Eliel Rodriguez and Charlie Nuttle at 74. The freshman tandem of Adam Firkins and Teddy Swiech each shot 75.

Herkimer College Invitational

Rodriguez won his fourth tournament of the season on Saturday at the Par-72 Mohawk Valley Golf Club. The freshman standout carded a four-over-par 76 as the Thunderwolves (319 strokes) edged out Jefferson Community College by just one shot in the team scoring. Swiech tied for third with a 78 and Kates finished in the top 10 with an 82.

Onondaga CC Invitational

Despite wet and windy conditions, Kates was on fire on Sunday at the Par-72 Sunset Ridge Golf Club. The freshman earned another medalist honor with an even-par 72. Rodrguez was third with a 76 and Swiech and Firkins each had a 77. SUNY Niagara won the event by a staggering 31 strokes.
