Thunderwolves set regional record

SUNY Niagara set a new Region III single-round team record with 291 strokes as it won the season-opening Tompkins-Cortland Invitational on Friday afternoon at Elm Tree Golf Course.

Sophomore Adam Firkins shot an even-par 71 to earn medalist honors. Classmates Eliel Rodriguez (72) and Ryan Kates (73) rounded out the top three finishers at the event.

Freshman Finn Graham tied for fourth with a 75, sophomore Teddy Swiech tied for seventh with a 77 and freshman Anthony Gagliardi was 12th with a 79.

The tournament victory was the 50th in the career of veteran head coach Matthew Oleski. 

The Thunderwolves travel to Sunset Ridge Golf Club for the annual Onondaga Invite on Saturday morning.
