T-Wolves take No. 4 Herkimer to the wire

Niagara County Community College battled perennial national power Herkimer College for 90 minutes before falling 2-1 in home Region III action on Friday afternoon. The Thunderwolves are now 1-1 overall and 0-1 in regional play. The fourth-ranked Generals, meanwhile, improved to 1-1-1, 1-1.

NCCC fell behind 1-0 just three minutes into the game as Alex Charles scored for the visitors. N-Trip freshman Fritz Summer tied the game just five minutes later, though, with an unassisted tally. The game would remain knotted at 1-1 until the 82nd minute when Charles fed Herkimer teammate Christ Valle for the game winner.

NCCC freshman goalkeeper Lucas Schiel made seven saves in the setback. Herkimer's Manabu Takahashi finished with four saves.

The Thunderwolves return to the pitch at 1:30 p.m. Friday when they travel to NJCAA Div. I Monroe Community College in Rochester.
