NCCC booters split on opening weekend

Niagara County Community College kicked off its fall 2021 season by splitting a pair of Region III contests this past weekend. 

N-Trip dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 road tilt on Saturday at Onondaga Community College before rebounding with a 3-0 home victory on Sunday vs. Tompkins-Cortland Community College.

The Thunderwolves are now 1-1 on the young season with a key home matchup vs. perennial power Genesee Community College (2-0) slated for 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The Lazers' Adam Webster put home the game winner with less than a minute left in regulation. Martim Silva also scored for OCC (2-0).

Freshman Jay Yule scored NCCC's lone goal.

Niagara CCC 3, Tompkins-Cortland CC 0

Freshman goalkeeper Lucas Schiel and Harry Carter split the shutout as head coach Ed Fleck got his first win on the bench.

Schiel and Carter each made four saves for the T-Wolves, who out-shot the visitors, 18-8.

Freshmen Ruben Joao Baptista and Taivier Stewart each had a goal in the first half, while Yule capped the scoring with a tally right after intermission.

Stewart and classmate Mike Martinez picked up assists.

Nathan Stuart made 15 saves for the Panthers (1-1).
