NCCC beats TC3 in OT; advances to semifinals

Niagara County Community College knocked off visiting Tompkins-Cortland Community College, 3-2, in overtime of Sunday afternoon's Region III Div. III Pool B quarterfinal.

It was NCCC's first postseason appearance and victory since making an improbable run to the finals in 2015.

The Thunderwolves (7-6 overall) advance to the semifinal round at 6 p.m. Wednesday at nationally-ranked Herkimer College.

NCCC freshman Taivier Stewart, last spring's leading scorer, netted the game winner in the seventh minute of extra time. Classmate Jay Yule was credited with the assist.

Yule gave N-Trip a 2-0 first-half lead when he finished off a pair of headers. Yule, this fall's leading scorer, now has 19 goals on the year - the third best total among all NJCAA Div. III players.

Freshman Alex Sanchez and sophomore Will Quarantello each had an assist for the T-Wolves.

Noah Shiel and Caleb Marsh scored for the Panthers (2-9).
