Serrano picks up WNYAC special award

Niagara County Community College freshman pitcher Lydia Serrano was recently named Western New York Athletic Conference Co-Female Academic Athlete of the Year following a vote of the conference's athletic directors. Serrano shared the award with Jamestown Community College women's basketball student-athlete Macey Lundmark.

Serrano, who has a 3.91 GPA with 59 credits accumulated in four full-time semesters, led NCCC in all major pitching statistics. The right-hander had an 8-5 record with 59 strikeouts and a 4.94 ERA. At the plate, the clean-up hitter finished with a .492 batting average and 26 RBIs. Serrano helped NCCC to an 11-7 record and its first home postseason game in recent memory.
