Herkimer College
SUNY Niagara opened the home portion of its schedule with a narrow 11-6 setback to perennial Region III contender Herkimer College on Saturday afternoon. Game two was canceled due to inclement weather.
The Thunderwolves fell to 0-11 overall and 0-1 in regional play, while the Generals improved to 1-6, 1-0.
Freshman Caitlyn Hanley continued her strong start to the season with a double and three RBIs. The right-hander also went the distance in the circle, allowed just five earned runs and struck out five batters.
Fellow frosh Isabella Christopher was 3-for-4, while sophomore Rylee VanNostrand had a double and two runs scored and freshman Quinn Manth added two hits.
The Wolves return to action at 1 p.m. Saturday for a twinbill at SUNY Adirondack.
