Thunderwolves bring home first regional title

Host Niagara County Community College knocked off reigning National Champion Monroe Community College, 78-68, in the Region III Division II championship game on Sunday afternoon. It is the first regional title in school history for the women's basketball program.

The No. 8 Thunderwolves are now 31-0 overall as they prepare for the NJCAA Division II Tournament, which will be held March 19-23 in Harrison, Arkansas. 

Sophomore Kenetria Redfern led the T-Wolves attack with a game-high 30 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. Classmate Shilah Parker added 15 points, nine rebounds and four assists, sophomore Cori Dickson finished with 10 points and five assists and freshman Aubrey Halloran had nine points and 10 rebounds.

Redfern recorded 26 points, seven steals, five rebounds and three blocks in the semifinal victory. Freshman Paige Emborsky canned five 3-pointers on her way to 17 points, Parker had 16 points, six assists, five rebounds and four steals and Dickson added 13 points, eight boards and eight assists.

* Following the event, Redfern was named Tournament Most Valuable Player, while Dickson, Emborsky and Halloran each earned a spot on the All-Tournament team.
