Niagara runs past Jayhawks

Niagara County Community College opened up Region III play with a 114-88 victory over visiting Jamestown Community College on Friday night. The Thunderwolves, who shot 43 percent on 105 field-goal attempts, improved to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in regional games. JCC, which shot 36 percent on 93 field-goal attempts, fell to 1-4, 0-1.

Freshman Gabrielle McDuffie led NCCC with a game-high 39 points, 15 rebounds and five steals. Classmate Kiya Marquez had 21 points, eight boards, six assists and five steals, freshman Olivia Smith canned four 3-pointers for 12 points and sophomore Alaina Forbes chipped in with 10 points. Sophomore Eliza Conyers contributed nine points and 11 rebounds in the win.

Nadara O'Dell had 21 points and nine rebounds for the Jayhawks.

Next up for NCCC is a non-conference tilt at Harcum College. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. Sunday.
