NCCC pulls away from Jayhawks

Niagara County Community College scored 61 second-half points to blow open a close game and knock off visiting Jamestown Community College, 91-59, in Western New York Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night.

The Thunderwolves, who are receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Div. II poll, improved to 18-3 overall and 2-0 in the WNYAC. JCC fell to 9-10, 0-1.

NCCC sophomore Alaina Forbes netted a game-high 24 points, including 14 during the decisive third quarter. N-Trip - which forced 28 turnovers - outscored the Jayhawks, 34-13, in the third period.

Also for the T-Wolves, freshman Gabrielle McDuffie had 12 points and seven rebounds, freshman Kiya Marquez netted 12 points and classmate Aichata Ballo stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, nine steals, five rebounds and five assists.

Hannah Hicks had 17 points to lead Jamestown CC.

NCCC returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Wed. Feb. 2 with a home date vs. Monroe Community College.
