SUNY Niagara wins twice at Holiday Classic

SUNY Niagara won a pair of key NJCAA Div. II contests at this past weekend's annual Thunderwolves Holiday Classic. The T-Wolves improved to 13-0 overall and currently sit at No. 14 in the national rankings. The Wolves return to the court at 5:30 p.m. Friday for a non-conference game at Henry Ford College.

No. 14 SUNY Niagara 101, Henry Ford 49

Sophomore Rachel Kamrowski scored a season-high 20 points in the victory. SUNY Niagara scored 65 second-half points and forced 37 turnovers. Also for the Wolves, freshman Mackenzie Owens had 17 points and nine rebounds and sophomore Makayla Thomas finished with 17 points and five boards. Freshman Ava Bull added 15 points, nine rebounds and four steals and sophomore Krystal Smith stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, nine boards and six steals.

No. 14 SUNY Niagara 75, Raritan Valley CC 52

The Thunderwolves held a 52-30 edge on the glass and utilized a strong 21-6 second-quarter surge to come out on top. Smith had a big double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds to lead the way. Freshman Isabella Karabetsos had 18 points and eight rebounds and Owens added 12 points and six boards in the win. 

*Sunday's victory over Raritan Valley was the 300th career win for head coach Nate Beutel.
