SUNY Niagara made its home debut a successful one with an 87-46 victory over district opponent Lackawanna College on Sunday afternoon as part of its annual Tip-Off Classic. The Thunderwolves, ranked No. 17 in the latest NJCAA Div. II poll, improved to 7-0 overall.
Freshman Mackenzie Owens led the way with 19 points, five rebounds and three steals off the bench. Classmate Atarah Walker recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards, while sophomore Krystal Smith finished with 12 points, six boards and three steals. Freshman point guard Isabella Karabetsos, meanwhile, had nine points and 11 assists.
The Thunderwolves held a commanding 55-35 edge on the glass. SUNY Niagara, which led 40-20 at intermission, put the game away with a 27-10 third-quarter spurt.
The Wolves return to action at 5 p.m. Friday with a non-conference road date at CCAC Allegheny.
