T-Wolves open WNYAC play with a win

SUNY Niagara started the game on a 19-2 run en route to an 86-69 Western New York Athletic Conference victory over visiting Monroe Community College on Saturday afternoon.

The Thunderwolves, ranked No. 18 in the latest NJCAA Div. II poll, improved to 19-2 overall and 1-0 in the WNYAC. Monroe CC, meanwhile, dropped to 10-9, 0-1. 

Sophomore Makayla Thomas led a balanced effort with 19 points, five rebounds and four steals.

Classmate Anaya Smith had 17 points and 13 boards, sophomore Krystal Smith finished with 12 points and seven boards and freshman Atarah Walker chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds. 

The Wolves return to action at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday for a critical road contest at Jamestown Community College (13-2, 1-0).
