SUNY Niagara splits in Michigan

SUNY Niagara finished up the first semester with a 1-1 swing through Michigan. The Thunderwolves, ranked No. 14 in the most recent NJCAA Div. II poll, fell to 14-1 overall. The Wolves return to action at 1 p.m. Sat. Jan. 4 when they host Lorain County Community College.

Sophomore Krystal Smith had 19 points and 12 rebounds as the T-Wolves held the host Hawks to just 16 percent shooting. Freshman Ava Bull finished with 18 points and 11 boards, sophomore Anaya Smith had 17 points and 11 rebounds and freshman Isabella Karabetsos stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points, six steals, four assists and four boards. Sophomore Rachel Kamrowski chipped in 11 points in the win.

Krystal Smith had 18 points and eight boards, but the Thunderwolves could not overcome a 31 percent field-goal percentage, 26 turnovers or a minus-17 mark on the glass.
