Montalvo is runner-up at JCC Open

Niagara County Community College freshman Renso Montalvo finished as a runner-up in the 157-pound weight class at this past Sunday's annual Jamestown Open. Montalvo recorded a pin and a 4-0 victory before dropping a narrow 2-1 decision to Mike Zacur (Mercyhurst) in the championship bout.

Classmmate Kace Cook was fourth in the same weight class, finishing with wins via technical fall and pinfall. Fellow frosh Quinn Brown also earned a pair of wins in the 157-pound bracket.

At 125 pounds, freshman Joseph Florance earned four victories on his way to a third-place finish. Florance won twice by technical fall, once by pin and once by medical forfeit.

Sophomore Mike Catanzaro, meanwhile, was fourth at 133 pounds. He also won four matches - three by pinfall and one by major decision.

The Thunderwolves return to the mats at 10 a.m. Sunday for the annual Whizzer Open hosted by Henry Ford College.
