Wolves suffer narrow defeat

SUNY Niagara battled, but came up just short in a 27-23 non-conference setback to visiting Alfred State as part of the annual Wolfpack Cup on Tuesday night.

The difference in the match was a pair of unexpected SUNY Niagara forfeits due to illness at 133 and 141 pounds. The Thunderwolves are now 2-4 overall in dual meets this season.

Freshman Joseph Cicco (174) led the way for the T-Wolves, pinning George Racz in 2:36. Classmates Aiden Poe (184) and Te'Shaun Mathews (157) each won via technical fall, while fellow frosh Michael Syposs won an 18-9 major decision at 165 pounds.

The Wolfpack returns to the mats at 4 p.m. Sat. Jan. 25 for the annual Jamestown Community College Duals.
