Wolves have three champs at Garrett tourney

SUNY Niagara had three first-place finishers at this past weekend's annual Defend the Lake Open hosted by Garrett College.

Freshman Te'Shaun Mathews, who also played soccer in the fall, took top honors at 157 pounds. Mathews went 3-0 at the event, including a 56-second pin of Garrett's Brooks Smith in the championship bout.

Classmate Michael Syposs was first at 165 pounds after a pair of pinfall victories and a technical-fall win vs. Ashton-Grayson Allen (Patrick Henry) in the finals.

Fellow frosh Joseph Cicco was the 174-pound champion after he pinned teammate and runner-up Cameron Hall

Freshman Vinny Falsetti, meanwhile, won three matches to battle back for third place at 141 pounds.

The Thunderwolves return to action on Nov. 23 for the annual New York State Collegiate Championships at SUNY Oneonta.
