Cicco takes first at Whizzer Open

SUNY Niagara freshman Joseph Cicco took first place in his weight class at this past weekend's Whizzer Open hosted by Henry Ford College.

Cicco went 3-0 at 165 pounds, including a pin of Dominik Whitesel (Adrian) in the finals. His other two wins came via technical fall and pinfall. It was his second individual tournament title of the season.

Sophomore Laith Alsous made his season debut at the event and took second place in the heavyweight division. Alsous was 2-1 and dropped a narrow 3-0 decision in the finals.

Sophomores Mike Catanzaro (133) and Michael Syposs (157) each went 3-1 with a pair of wins and a tech fall on their way to third-place finishes. Freshman Bobby Ranger (197) took fourth.

The Thunderwolves return to the mats at 9 a.m. Saturday for the annual John Summa Invitational hosted by Baldwin Wallace University.
