NCCC falters in season opener

Niagara County Community College dropped a 5-2 decision to Finger Lakes Community College in its season opener this past Friday on the turf at FLCC. It was the first women's soccer game for the program since the fall of 2018 following a one-year hiatus and then the Covid-19 pandemic. It was also the debut of the coaching tandem of Kennet Fosuhene and Rebecca Hunter.

NCCC (0-1) fell behind 4-0 before the freshmen duo of Stephanie Penna and Renee Dammann each netted their first collegiate goal in the final 20 minutes of the contest. Both tallies were unassisted. First-year goalkeeper Kelsey Mallaber was kept busy throughout as the T-Wolves were out-shot 38-6 in the contest. Mallaber had 14 saves.

Allie Bowe scored a hat trick to lead the host Lakers (1-0).

The Thunderwolves return to action at 6 p.m. Friday when they visit Genesee Community College for another Region III matchup.
