NCCC drops season opener to rival Kats

Niagara County Community College kicked off its abbreviated season with a three-set loss to host Erie Community College on Thursday night. The Thunderwolves (0-1) and rival Kats will meet four times this month with the next contest slated for 6 p.m. March 11 at NCCC.

In Thursday's setback, freshman Gianna Smalley led the T-Wolves with seven kills and seven digs. Sophomore Sarah Syracuse had 13 assists, classmate Zahraa Kareem contributed 13 digs and second-year player Jenn Myers added five kills, three digs and two service aces.

Jiana Kresconko had nine kills to lead ECC (1-0).
